I think that this practice is archaic, particularly since there are other alternatives for filling teeth. I think it is time that Mercury is banned from use in the mouth or any product that is ingested or injected. It is so highly toxic, and it can affect our DNA and RNA, changing our genome forever.
As a parent, I am concerned about the apparent epidemic of Autism in our country. But as any scientist will tell you, there is no such thing as a "genetic epidemic" it just doesn't "happen." It is created by changes we are making to our health from constant repeated exposure to heavy metals in products and procedures that we use for our "medicine" in the short term, but which are really toxic to us in the long term.
Dentists who remove toxic fillings should have safety standards that they can follow to remove them safely without contaminating the air and water at their dental clinics and without further damaging the health of the patient. I think these standards should be at least as strict and controlled as what we currently employ for asbestos and lead removal in buildings.

Find viable earth friendly replacements for the products we already use. The reason there is such an abundance of these items is because we use them. Find a new product that acts in the same way plastic does, but that will also break down and not harm the enviroment.
I want to bring back the Woodsy the Owl campaign I remember from when I was a child to help educate today's youth about littering. Remember the jingle? "In the city or in the woods, help keep America looking good!-hoot hoot!" I really think it would get a great response.
Raise the deposit on bottles and cans to 25 cents and expand the items subject to the deposit to include containers like wine and liquor bottles and cans from prepared foods such as pet food, soup and tomato sauce.
I work for The Green Project in New Orleans and we receive around 100 one gallon plastic paint cans a week. ➢ Give and Take Days are a great way to reuse items that are too good to throw away but you just don’t have a use for them anymore – just bring along any reusable items between 11am and 1pm, then take away anything you want from 1pm to 4pm – it’s free! (you don’t have to bring something to take something). ➢ Example of what you can bring: household goods, pots/pans, books, CDs, DVDs, toys, bric-a-brac, bikes, plants, ...more »

EPA's Renovation Repair and Painting (RRP) regulation puts good contractors between the rock of charging far more and the hard place of losing business to numerous competitors who are ignoring lead, while putting nor responsibilty when it belongs, on the owner.
It is time to require that all apartments built before 1978 be inspected by the end of 2015, and that houses built before 1978 be inspected when sold, or before major renovation work. The inspections should have to be performed by an experienced consultant using an XRF machine. They are inexpensive, and provide the information needed to focus on lead-based paint only where it exists, rather than pretending it is everywhere. We've found that about half the rsidential buildings built 1960 to 1978 have no lead-basd paint, and the other half just a little. Some in the 1950s have little or none, some have a fair amount. The 1940s and older buildings have more, and the most in what were originally the fanciest neighborhoods.
