Campaign: Expanding the Conversation on Environmentalism and Working for Environmental Justice

Thank you for all the great ideas

After December 31, 2013, EPA is no longer maintaining the technology this discussion forum uses. We really appreciate the energy and creativity this format allowed. We’re looking at how we can continue to share the ideas you've contributed. We continue to explore ways to expand the conversation and listen to your ideas to help protect human health and the environment.

Multi-Jurisdictional Agency Support for Public Participation

Federal lands in county jurisdictions are not accountable for stormwater pollution prevention of state water bodies. Local jurisdictions (counties and cities) under regulation by regional state agencies -- with no authority to address federal land contributions to receiving water body impairments -- place the burden of correcting impaired conditions on local land owners in proximity to the water body, through public ...more »

Match RSVP In-Kind Hours with Public Works Projects

Create a "time bank" of donated Retired Senior Volunteer Program hours so that local public works departments can help neighborhood outdoor cleanup projects (road safety signage, dumpsters, removal of collected litter - tires from the shoreline, deserted appliances) to encourage neighbors, friends, and families to keep creeks and watersheds healthy.

Put pm range on new maps of wood smoke problem areas

The Am Lung says EPA is going to publish a map of wood smoke pollution problem areas. Good. Put put a range on the total pm estimated so gov will know the pm likely. It is not NAAQS but tells where threats are believed to be occurring and threats to life and health have to be stopped and investigated per essential services policy of the DHHS. Then burning by stoves can be prohibited in problem areas. Pellet stoves will ...more »

Boats out of Date or service!

This is coming from 2 Michigan towns Ludington, Manistee. It is time to clean up these to places as Ludington has iron floating in the harbor that should go to the scrap yard. The Badger is the only coal burning ferry still in operation, its owners have refused to switch it over to a non-poluting power plant dumping tons of coal ash into Lake Michigan. Enough is enough, employees know the end of the Badger is near ...more »

Ozone non-attainment

The EPA seems reluctant to assess compliance with ozone standards in Metropolitan Statistical Areas on an annual basis. I live in an area that has exceeded the ozone standard for 4 years and yet we are officially still in attainment. The EPA should review ozone attainment annually to protect citizens from unhealthy air.

RMRR guidelines

How does a manufacturing compliance officer decide if they need to follow New Source Review (NSR) or New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) regulations if they have repaired or replaced a "facility" that resulted in an increase in emissions as defined by EPA? This is important since the requirements for NSR and NSPS are not the same. For example, a NSR review is required if the capital costs of the work exceeds 20% ...more »

Let's talk about E-wastes

I have become interested with the issues regarding e-wastes, but I really do not have that much information about the subject. For this reason it would be nice of you people if we could use this space to share our ideas about e-wastes in general, such as our opinions on how it is handled, how it affects the areas we live in, or even some solutions and proposals that we might think of to provise solutions to this problem. ...more »

Disposable diapers

Has the EPA ever considered stopping the manufacture of disposable diapers? If not, is there a green way of disposing them in place of putting them into landfills?
