Contest to reduce ozone emissions in DFW

I'm a high school student and not sure how to get this idea implemented. I'd like to start a contest in DFW to see which county can reduce their ozone readings for a 90-day period starting in July. The county with the greatest percentage drop in readings (compared to a 3-year average for each county) would win. They would be "The Biggest Ozone Loser." If citizens would just try to help one day a week, we could make a ...more »

Tighten PCV hoses at your smog check station!

PCV (positive crankcase ventilation), the first smog device mandated to be installed in cars beginning in 1964. PCV captures blowby gases escaping into the crankcases below the pistons and redirects the toxic blowby gases back into the intake manifold through a series of large rubber hoses and a pulsing valve. New PCV hoses are airtight and works well until several years later when the rubber hoses tend to lose it pliabilty ...more »

Kenitec energies in flowing streams suited for low head turbine

Most neglected but of great potential are kenetic energies in rivers/stsreams, sea waves, and wind. Torque is amplified by multiple propellers in a common shaft to power gear pumps. Several gear pumps can be connected in series to increase water pressure to that required by a low head electrric generator. Several headers from sets of gear pumps can be accumulated into an accumulator with a relief valve. The system can ...more »

Install fans in main sewage pipes

Often, I get nearly knocked out from inhaling sewage gases oozing through manholes in big cities. They are so bad . I just thought about installing big fans to suck air through the manholes to keep the sewage gases moving in the right directions that is toward the treatment plants where they belong! This can also help suck in heavy traffic smog to help reduce air pollution on the busy streets. The fans can be solar powered ...more »

Require no-idling technology in all new cars

Idle start/stop systems shut a car down when it is idling. Since idling causes unnecessary emissions, why not do more than encourage drivers not to idle?

Some cars already have this technology, such as Toyota Prius and Mini Cooper. And some car manufacturers are already planning on using this for all their cars in the future, such as Mazda and Ford. We should require it of all new cars.

Global Warming

Mitigation of Global Warming at this late date will be HUGELY expensive and need a three-prong approach:1 buy sustainable energy equipment and barter it with foo big to fail fossil fuel firms for fossil fuel reserves to be held underground for posterity, 2 Buy fossil fuel reserves, 3 carbon capture and storage

The Root Cause

This may be an unpopular concept but we do need to start discussing it. The root cause of all our environmental problems is that we have just about exceeded the carrying capacity of the earth for human population. Reducing the human population on earth will reduce the demand on natural resources such as fossil fuels and potable water; will reduce contamination of air, water and land; and will reduce waste production. ...more »

DirecTV and e-waste - A Time for Change

Issue: DirecTV's hardware leasing practices directly contributes a significant amount of e-waste to our environment. Consider the following examples: a. When a consumer cancels service, DirecTV selectively decides what receivers/hardware is to be returned. The hardware works without issues but DirecTV only wants the newer equipment returned and leaves the perfectly working equipment with the customer. It cannot ...more »

Gasoline containers.

Guess I am a little behind on issues. Recently someone stole 2 gas containers I have had for many years. I didn't know until I went to find replacements about the new EPA regulations on gas containers. The only thing I could buy had the new spouts. This is totally absurd and ridiculous. It's almost impossible to use these without spilling gas. I never spilled any with the old ones. Just try to fuel a small leaf blower ...more »

Reducing humanities aquatic thermal footprint.

In our effort to address aquatic warming, humanity needs to tax, restrict, reduce, and redirect as much of the current source of aquatic thermal contamination. To help stop and reverse the effects of our human related aquatic thermal accumulation. Our thermal contribution has accumulated, because teh oceans have a predominant downwards direction of conduction. We need to seriously address this problem, just as aggressively ...more »

Time for diesel electric semi trucks.

Its time that we engineer diesel electric semi trucks to run up and down our highways. There is no reason that we can't engineer highly effient diesel powered generators, that would then power electric drive motors for our semi truck industry. To help reduce both fuel consumption and carbon output. Batteries might also be a viable cost effective option with this type of application, given all of the downhill braking that ...more »

Make simple living seem like a Cool idea

Create a game (for all ages) where you compete to use as few resources as possible, and enlist some popular recognizable faces to help promote it. A few opportunities for a younger person to experience actively reducing resource use will get them thinking and creating on their own. At our house, we play "living at sea on a sailboat", so we think of how much water and electricity we use, and how to make healthy dried food ...more »

Gasoline cans used for home use.

The only gas cans I can find at the hardware store are those that reduce the amount of gas vapor that is released. I hate them. I believe they cause MORE pollution than the old style. Everytime I fill my lawn mower I end up spilling gas on the driveway, the lawn mower and on me. These types of gas cans might pass some EPA test in the laboratory but in real life they fail miserable. Make no mistake. I by and large ...more »

Help Renters To Access Green Energy Resources

This is about identifying barriers to green energy technologies in existing rental properties. I am a renter for over 30 years. (It is not possible for me to own a home.) My income goes to pay for my landlord's property and taxes, but I have no control over how she chooses to spend her money on maintenance and improvements to her property which is my home. But I pay for the energy bill for my flat. I am doing ...more »

Improving air quality without costing jobs.

Many people that have become dependant upon fires to make their living, have been discovered to have been starting fires whenever a cut to their budget is approuched. We need to address this matter by creating job shifting measures to help protect against such costly illegal behavior. Plus, I think stricter regulations need to be made to prevent the extreme alteration of diesel pick up exhaust systems, within our communities. ...more »

Make Woodstoves meet Health Guidelines per Law

DHHS Essential Services policy requires all threats to life and health be stopped and prevented. Wood smoke is 12 times more carcinogenic than tobacco smoke that is banned. It pollutes regions more than cars that are regulated. So require NSPS stds to meet EPA guidelines for a safe pm2.5 dose of raw wildfire and wood smoke at 180 mcg/m3,hr. It will help air quality, global warming, lower chemicals, clean up communities, ...more »

THE MECHANICS OF EARTH’S CLIMATE ENVIRONS

THE MECHANICS OF EARTH’S CLIMATE ENVIRONS “The more you understand it, the more you realize you don’t have to answer the question of whether or not something is conscious in order to define consciousness”. But, he said, it’s important not to come up with a definition before we’ve understood all the elements that need to be encompassed in that definition, least we suffer what he calls “the heartbreak of premature definition,” ...more »

Buffalo Wild Wings lack of recycling

It was brought to my attention that BWW uses all paper products for plates. I was talking to a former server that worked briefly for the company and she explained that due to lack of space they don't have a dish room. I was appalled and immediately thought of all the needless waste going into our landfills.I don't know how to go about investigating the validity of this claim and if it's true what could be done to change ...more »
